0:00The terminal multiplexer scene is blowing up β tmux, Zellij, Herder, Workmux, Superfile, Yazi β and the channel's verdict is that TUIOS just took the lead. It bills itself not as a multiplexer but as "an operating system for your terminal," and while that's a stretch, the v0.8 update is big enough that the previous comparisons to Herder/Workmux no longer hold.
What TUIOS is
1:07A Go terminal window manager "that knows what your agents are doing." The prior video covered v0.70; literally the day it shipped, v0.8 landed β and despite the forgiving version bump it's a major release: a new side panel, macOS-style window buttons (close/enlarge/minimize) that actually work now, a Vim-style mode indicator in the top bar, and full agent management. The help menu puts keybindings first, and everything lives in a config file at ~/.config/tuiyos.
The rail
1:41The side panel β called the rail β is the most obvious change, clearly inspired by Herder. It shows the current session name and, more usefully, the files in the current directory, updating as the path changes: a persistent mini file explorer instead of constantly cd-ing and ls-ing. 11:17And it's fully interactive β cut (X), paste (P), rename (R), delete (with confirmation), and add new files/folders, partly doing Superfile's job inside TUIOS.
Agent management
2:51Agents are first-class citizens. Even an obscure agent (his example: Pi) gets auto-detected and shows up in the pane and the bottom sidebar, with status β working, ready, or waiting for input. 6:38TUIOS ships integrations that detect your local configs and install the hooks for you (Claude, Codex, Gemini, OpenCode, Cursor, Hera, and Pi in his list; a doctor command shows other supported agents). The prefix defaults to Ctrl-B like tmux, and 7:13start agent pops a new pane with an agent running β optionally with a name and an initial prompt β so you can fire up a whole team of named agents (reviewer, developer, tester) and talk to each from any pane.
The mail system
3:58The genuinely novel bit: agents can talk to each other through a built-in mailbox. Space+S focuses the rail, I opens the inbox, N starts a new message to a running agent. 5:36Under the hood every pane gets an ID (exposed as an env var), and messages are addressed by pane ID with a "human" flag for notes meant for the user. The video's framing: it's handing agents their own email system β the same trick as the OpenAI/Hugging Face sandbox escape, where agents cooperated through text files on the host β now as a feature. The caveat: an agent only sees the message when it actively checks its inbox, so it's designed for agent-to-agent work, not instant human paging.
Review panel
9:03The most exciting v0.8 addition: V opens a review session over an agent's changes β a diff view with controls to move between hunks and files, split, reload, and add notes. Unlike text notes sent "to the abyss," S sends your notes to the agent, which has instructions to review the person's notes. The channel's observation: review utilities are the kind of thing you'd expect in the agent harness, not the multiplexer β one more reason to stop calling TUIOS a multiplexer.
Fan: best-of-N
9:47Fan runs one prompt across up to 16 agents simultaneously, each in its own Git worktree. fan verify runs the right test suite (npm, pytest, go test, cargo) across all trees so you can see which passed; fan keep keeps the winner and discards the rest β a best-of-N strategy for features that can go multiple directions. The honest caveat: it's not token-efficient, and it's not the tool for reviewing 16 different implementations of the same code β but for brute-forcing a design decision it's possibly the quickest way forward.
File manager & remote
12:03Rounding out the "OS" claim: remote/headless mode β run TUIOS in the cloud or on a home box and connect from anywhere by editing the config; a command palette (Ctrl+P) that fuzzy-searches everything and can launch arbitrary binaries from your PATH (he runs Yazi inside a pane); screenshots with preview; and VHS tape recording (Charm's suite β the whole TUI is built on Lip Gloss and Bubble Tea). The verdict: TUIOS can't be overlooked β Workmux + Herder + Yazi "all in one, plus more," with zero config needed to have fun out of the box.
Claims checked
TUIOS is real. Gaurav-Gosain/tuios β Go, ~5.6kβ , "A terminal window manager that knows what your agents are doing." (The auto-captions garble the name as "Twoey OS" / "2 OS" / "two US" / "tuiyos" β the project is TUIOS.)
The v0.8 features (rail, mail, review panel, fan, remote mode, file manager) are described from the video's walkthrough and are not independently re-verified here; the "Hugging Face/OpenAI agents cooperating via text files" anecdote is the creator's recollection, not this article's claim.
InMotion Cloud ("Flex Spin Advantage VPC") is a paid sponsor segment mid-video β a managed cloud with a fixed-fee resource pool for agent workloads. Described for context; no sponsor link reproduced. The rest of the description's links are affiliate/promo (keycaps, courses) and are also skipped.
